Police dog bites man in Auckland City during arrest for attempted car theft

8 February 2022

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a Police dog biting a man twice.  The man was fleeing from Police after attempting to steal two cars from members of the public. While the Authority thinks there were other opportunities available to Police to catch the suspect, we are satisfied the Police dog handler made reasonable decisions based on current policy and training.

The Police officer was spoken to during this process and the Authority agrees with the outcome for him.
