Officer prosecuted for careless driving causing a vehicle collision

21 February 2022

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into the conduct of an officer from Wellington District who was involved in a vehicle collision at an intersection controlled by traffic lights. Police investigated the matter and notwithstanding the officer was on duty and travelling to an incident, he was charged with careless driving.

The officer appeared in Court, pleaded guilty to the driving offence and was fined and ordered to pay reparation for the damage he had caused. Police also conducted an employment investigation and the officer received an employment sanction.

The Authority is satisfied with the Police investigations and the outcomes they reached.
