The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint from Wellington District alleging a Police officer had unlawfully arrested a male for disorderly behaviour.
The male was sleeping in a public place and was woken by the officer. He told the officer to leave but the officer refused. An argument began and the male was arrested.
The Police investigation found the arrest and therefore the subsequent force used was unlawful.
Police conducted a disciplinary process and found the officer’s behaviour was in breach of the Police Code of Conduct. This resulted in an appropriate employment outcome.
The Authority agreed with the Police findings and outcome.
