Police officer crashed after urgent duty driving through a red light - Waitemata District

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a crash in which a Police officer drove above the speed limit and ran a red light in order to get into position to set up spikes to stop a stolen car.

While driving through the intersection, the officer crashed into another vehicle.

The officer was subsequently charged with careless use of a motor vehicle, to which he pleaded guilty. An employment investigation was also conducted.

The Authority agrees with the findings and outcome.
