Officer resigns while under criminal and employment investigation for two assaults in Central District

9 March 2022

The Authority oversaw two investigations into allegations a Police officer assaulted a person in custody in the Police station, and his partner in separate instances. Police determined that the officer should be charged with assault in respect of each incident. Both matters are currently proceeding through the District Court.

The Authority agrees with the findings, outcome and actions taken by Police. The Authority accepts that an employment investigation was unable to be completed as the officer resigned before the conclusion of the investigations.
