Off duty Police officer in Northland involved in family harm incident

10 March 2022

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an off duty Police officer forced his way into his wife’s house, breaking the door, assaulted her and then grabbed his phone from her hand.

The matter was investigated from a criminal perspective but there was insufficient evidence to charge the officer.

The employment process did not uphold the allegations of breaking the door or assault but upheld the allegation that he had grabbed his phone from her. His conduct was dealt with by a confidential employment sanction.

The Authority agreed with the findings and the outcome.
