Christchurch officers’ actions prior to crash investigated

9 May 2022

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a serious crash following an armed vehicle stop and fleeing driver event in Canterbury on 26 August 2021.

Police found that the armed stop was poorly planned and inappropriate.

Police reviewed the driving of three Police officers who pursued the man and decided that given the circumstances it was not appropriate to charge any of them with driving offences.

The Police officers involved received an appropriate employment outcome, which included compulsory retraining opportunities.

The Authority agreed with the findings and outcome of the investigation.
