Unprofessional off-duty behaviour from officer in Central District

9 May 2022

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an off-duty Police officer engaging in a fight with a member of public, making derogatory comments, and then being given a ride home in a marked Police car after a private function.

Police found that a fight did occur, but blame could not be established, and the officer’s actions did not meet the threshold for prosecution. They found that mutual derogatory comments were also exchanged during the fight.

Police also found that use of the patrol car for transport that did not relate to official duty was a misuse of resources by both the officer and the officer who collected him.

The Authority believes that Police took the appropriate actions with the officers and agrees with the findings and outcome.
