Complaint that senior Police officers influenced recruiting process

16 May 2022

The Authority investigated a complaint that senior officers had interfered with the Police recruitment process by inappropriately influencing a decision to accept an applicant for training at the Royal New Zealand Police College.

Despite early indications in the recruitment process that the applicant was unsuitable for training, he was accepted for training at the Police College.

The Authority made enquires that included interviews with a number of current and former senior Police officers and civilian staff involved in the recruitment process but found no evidence of impropriety or undue influence as alleged.
