The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an incident where an officer stole and destroyed his own blood sample. The officer had been stopped at an alcohol checkpoint and after failing the breath test, elected to have a blood sample drawn.
The investigation determined the officer used a colleague’s access card to enter the Police station where his blood sample was stored and stole the sample before destroying it. The officer was charged with burglary, perverting the course of justice, and driving whilst forbidden.
While Police commenced an employment investigation and found the officer’s actions breached the Code of Conduct, the officer resigned before the process was completed.
The Authority agrees with the outcome of the Police investigations.
