Bay of Plenty officer investigated for family violence, sending inappropriate photographs and videos to his partner, and sharing confidential information

The Authority oversaw three Police investigations into allegations against an officer. These related to:

- Family violence;

- Inappropriate photos sent to his partner while on duty, including intimate photos of himself and photos of people in Police custody; and

- Confidential Police information shared wi19-1151th his partner.

Following a criminal investigation, the officer was charged with assaulting a person with a blunt instrument, and assault with intent to injure. He was acquitted at trial.

An employment investigation found the officer’s conduct breached the Code of Conduct and the officer resigned.

The Authority is satisfied that the Police investigation was thorough and reached appropriate conclusions.
