Counties Manukau Police employee acts inappropriately while off-duty

8 August 2023

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an off-duty Police employee who smashed a supermarket window while intoxicated.

At about 2.00am on 22 February 2022, Police attended an incident where a window had been broken. They located the man responsible, who, although injured from the broken glass, resisted Police efforts to render first aid.

It was established the man was a Police employee. He was on sick leave waiting for a COVID-19 test result, therefore breaching Ministry of Health guidelines. The employee acknowledged responsibility for his actions.

Police did not criminally charge the man and an employment process established the employee had breached their Code of Conduct. The Authority is satisfied with Police actions and the outcome.
