Counties Manukau officer investigated for breaching operational security and having links to gang members

29 August 2023

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation an officer has associations with gang members and breached operational security while working on a criminal investigation.

While off-duty, the officer talked to a family member who is a gang member. He provided some information about the investigation he was working on. The next day the officer told his supervisor about what had happened.

Police investigated and found that the impact of the breach of security was low to non-existent. They concluded there was no evidence of criminal offending, nor was there any breach of the Police Code of Conduct. Police took steps to mitigate any further potential risk arising from the officer’s associations within his family.

The Authority is satisfied with Police action.
