The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an officer inappropriately accessed the Police database (NIA) and shared information about a particular person with a family member.
Police found that the officer had checked the person’s criminal history on the database, but the officer said he did not pass on the information to his family member and only recommended that they do a full background check. The family member then found information about the person’s criminal history available on the internet.
The officer received an employment outcome for breaching the Police Code of Conduct by misusing the database.
