The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation an off-duty officer punched a man during a brawl in Auckland in February 2022.
While the criminal investigation found enough evidence to charge the officer, the public interest test for prosecution was not met, so no charges were laid.
However, the subsequent employment process found the officer’s behaviour breached the Police code of conduct and he was sanctioned for his actions.
The Authority is satisfied with how Police conducted their investigations and agrees with the outcomes they reached.
