Officer inappropriately accessed and used Police records in Waitemata District

31 January 2023

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an officer’s misuse of the Police national database after she accessed information relating to her partner.

Police conducted an audit on the officer’s use of the database and determined the officer accessed five records relating to her partner on one occasion which was a breach of the Police Code of Conduct.

The officer also sent a personal email from her Police account, which made it appear as if she was acting in a professional capacity. The officer realised this was inappropriate and reported her actions to her supervisor.

The Authority considers Police took appropriate employment action against the officer and agrees with the outcome of the Police investigation.
