The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint where it was alleged a Police Officer in Counties Manukau used Police information for his own benefit while off duty. The complainant said an officer communicated with them by email, in an inappropriate manner.
The complainant also said that when they raised their concerns to the officer’s supervisor, they were treated in an unprofessional manner.
Police investigated and found that an unidentified person, and not the named officer, had sent the emails. Police also found that the supervisor had not acted in an unprofessional manner.
However, the Police investigation did find that the officer had searched Police data without a legitimate work purpose, which is a breach of their Code of Conduct. The officer acknowledged this and was dealt with by way of an employment process.
The Authority agrees with the Police finding and outcome.
