Police employee in Palmerston North admits to grabbing his son by the scruff of his shirt

13 March 2023

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation where it was alleged that a Police employee assaulted his 10-year-old son by choking him in June 2022.

Police carried out a criminal investigation. The man admitted grabbing his son by the scruff of his shirt, however while Police found there was evidential sufficiency to charge it was not in the interest of the family to prosecute. The Authority agrees with this decision.

The employee took positive steps to address his behaviour and avoid similar incidents occurring.

The Authority considers the employee and Police reached an appropriate employment resolution.
