The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into three separate incidents involving an Authorised Officer. In two of the incidents, the Officer was alleged to have assaulted two people in Police custody. The officer was investigated for their involvement in a large public disorder event where Police found them with a baseball bat.
Police investigated the allegations and found there was insufficient evidence to prosecute. The victims of the assaults did not want to make a statement and there was no footage of the alleged assaults. In relation to the third incident, Police found there was insufficient evidence to prove the Authorised Officer had the baseball bat for an unlawful purpose or that he was directly involved in the public disorder incident.
The Authorised officer is no longer employed by New Zealand Police.
The Authority agrees with finding of the investigation and action taken.
