The Authority has overseen a review of a complaint of an inadequate Police investigation into an alleged indecent assault at the Otago Correctional Facility.
Police reviewed the investigation into the original indecent assault complaint. The review identified some investigation practices that could be improved upon, and further enquiries that could have been made. Police have undertaken a confidential employment process with the investigator to address this.
The review concluded that the investigation gathered enough evidence to prove the alleged offence but found that the public interest test was not met in this case.
We agree with the findings of the Police review and consider that Police adequately addressed the inadequacies they identified.
