Off-duty Police employee sanctioned for verbally abusing a woman

4 February 2024

The Authority oversaw a Police employment process into an allegation that a Police employee was involved in a heated exchange with a woman who was riding her horse on a rural road. The dispute arose following a disagreement over the employee’s driving speed as he was approaching the woman on her horse and whether the woman was riding her horse in a safe manner on the road.

Police investigated the matter and determined the employee had not behaved in the manner expected of a Police employee and in accordance with Police’s values and Code of Conduct. Police sanctioned the employee for their actions.

The Authority is satisfied with how Police conducted their employment process and the outcome they reached.
