The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that a Canterbury Police officer forcibly grabbed a young person by the shoulder to stop them leaving the station. The alleged incident occurred while Police were organising a suitable placement for the young person that evening.
Police conducted a criminal investigation to determine if the officer had used excessive force. The officer denied having done so. Having considered the available evidence of those involved and an independent witness, the Police investigation concluded there was insufficient evidence to support the allegation. Subsequently, Police decided there were no employment issues arising from this incident.
The Authority is satisfied with how the Police conducted their investigation and the outcome they reached.
