The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint that a Police employee based in Auckland unlawfully accessed and shared confidential information with a person with whom she was in a personal relationship.
It was alleged that between 2020 and 2022 the employee searched the Police computer system for private information, sharing this with her partner. It was also alleged she discussed confidential Police business with him.
Police conducted a criminal investigation under our oversight and found there was insufficient evidence to support any criminal charges. We agree with this decision.
Police then undertook an employment process and came to a preliminary finding that the employee’s conduct amount to serious misconduct. However, before the employment process was concluded, the employee resigned, negating any further action by Police.
