The Authority oversaw a Police employment investigation concerning an officer who was found to be in a forestry area of Tokoroa at 1am, with hunting gear, in a vehicle with both registration plates covered with electrical tape.
When approached by officers the man identified himself as a Police officer and proceeded to question the attending officers about who their superiors were. The officer says he did this to reassure the attending officers he posed no threat. Police accept this was reasonable in the circumstances.
The officer told the attending officers he was out looking at areas in preparation for hunting in the morning and claimed to be unaware the registration plates were covered.
Police concluded the officer had not acted in accordance with Police Values and the Code of Conduct relating to the covered plates.
The Authority agrees with Police findings.
