Northland officer investigated for assault

30 January 2024

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that a Northland officer used excessive force against a 78-year-old man following his arrest.

The Police investigation found the officer was justified in using force against the man to effect an arrest and recommended no further action.

The Authority agrees with the Police finding that there was insufficient evidence to charge the officer with assault or prove his actions amounted to a breach of the Police code of conduct.
