The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an off-duty Police officer who was socialising with associates, forcibly removed an intoxicated patron from a bar and placed them in a headlock/choke hold. The victim of the alleged offending reported the assault to Police.
Police investigated the officer’s off-duty actions, and the officer was charged. The matter is currently before the Court.
The officer resigned from New Zealand Police during the employment process.
The Authority is satisfied that the Police investigation was appropriate and thorough.
