Contractor sends sensitive Police documents to home email

27 June 2024

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation concerning a contractor who had sent commercially sensitive Police documents from a Police database to their own personal email address. This is the second of such incidents that have been brought to the attention of the Authority.

Police completed a criminal investigation which determined that the Test for Prosecution under the Solicitor-General’s Prosecution Guidelines had not been satisfied.

Police have confirmed that they have improved induction and training for contractors about the security of Police information. They have also instituted an improved process to address the risks arising from this activity.

The Authority agrees with these findings.
