Allegation of excess use of force during arrest in Auckland

29 May 2024

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an officer used excess force during the arrest of a young person in Auckland in August 2023.

The 14-year-old complainant was a passenger in a stolen car in Mount Albert which failed to stop when signalled to do so by Police. He alleged that when he was apprehended, the arresting officer banged his head on the concrete multiple times and used aggressive language towards him.

Police conducted an investigation and found insufficient evidence to support the allegations.

The Authority agrees with the findings of the investigation.
