The Authority oversaw a police investigation into a complaint about the process following a sudden death of a Police Officer, involved in an off duty car crash in the Bay of Plenty region.
A family member of the deceased raised issues regarding the timeliness of notifying next of kin, police officers viewing the body of the officer prior to the next of kin and an officer facetiming another officer while viewing the deceased.
The police investigation found the allegations were partially upheld. They identified areas of learning and have spoken with the Coroner’s office around process and policy.
The Authority agrees with the police findings and their subsequent actions to ensure learnings are disseminated to Police.
