The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an off-duty officer indecently assaulted a female acquaintance.
Following an investigation, Police determined that the available evidence would not support a criminal charge. The Authority agreed.
The Authority asked Police to consider any potential breaches of the Code of Conduct, Police values, or relevant Police policy. Police deemed that sufficient information had been gathered during the criminal investigation and decided not to conduct an employment investigation. Police did not obtain the Authority’s views in relation to the employment process which limited the Authority’s ability to oversee the process.
The Authority informed Police that bringing the disciplinary process to an end before it has had an opportunity to provide its views is inconsistent with protocols in place between the organisations.
