The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into the behaviour of an off-duty officer following a minor vehicle collision they were involved in at an intersection in Counties Manukau.
Police found that the officer yelled and swore at the elderly driver of a vehicle who crashed into them. The officer punched at the driver’s window and attempted to open the driver’s car door. The officer’s behaviour caused four different members of the public to call Police, as well as another to start filming the altercation on their cell phone.
Police considered there was sufficient evidence to charge the officer with the offence of threatening behaviour and referred them to the Te Pae Oranga Iwi Community Panel.
Police also carried out a disciplinary process for the officer for breaching the Police Code of Conduct.
The Authority is satisfied with the outcome of the investigation.
