Canterbury Police officer investigated after concerns raised by medical staff about their professionalism

11 February 2025

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint made by a medical practitioner that a detective lacked empathy and was unprofessional towards them and their patient. The medical practitioner was also concerned the detective dismissed their patient and did not take appropriate initial action in response to the patient’s allegations.

Police conducted an employment investigation and found the detective lacked professionalism and that their behaviour did not meet the standard expected of an officer. However, the investigation concluded the detective’s initial action and investigation into the patient’s allegations were in accordance with Police policy. The concerns identified in the investigation were addressed with the detective in a private employment outcome.

The Authority is satisfied with how the Police conducted their investigation and with the findings reached.
