Officer conducts computer checks for personal purpose

30 January 2025

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that a Bay of Plenty Police Officer conducted checks on the Police computer system for purposes that were not work related.

The checks occurred in 2022 and 2023 and involved a query on a motor vehicle and its registered owner, two checks on a family member, and two checks on the officer himself.

The investigation concluded that the checks on the family member and the self-checks were for private purposes and therefore in breach of Police policy and the Code of Conduct.

We agreed with the outcome of the employment process undertaken by Police.
