Tasman road policing officer failed to complete radar logbook when issuing speeding tickets

30 January 2025

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a road policing officer who failed to make entries within a radar logbook. Police policy requires officers fill in the logbook following pre-deployment checks of the speed detection device to signify it is operating correctly and accurately detects road speeds.

Over a two-year period, the officer failed to fill in the logbook when undertaking speed enforcement duties. As a result, a total of 270 speeding tickets issued by the officer were withdrawn, requiring refunds of $31,440.

Police carried out a confidential employment process with the officer.

The Authority is satisfied with how Police conducted their process and the findings reached.
