The Authority oversaw a Police criminal investigation into an allegation that a non-sworn Police employee inappropriately accessed Police information.
The criminal investigation identified the employee had made historic checks (between 2017-2020) relating to family members, acquaintances, and the employee’s ex-partner.
The employee admitted conducting checks to identify their ex-partner’s new address for the purpose of assisting their lawyer in serving court documents. The employee also admitted checking another person because of safety concerns.
The employee could not recall conducting the remaining checks, however accepted they were likely not for a legitimate work purpose.
The matter was referred to the Police charging panel for consideration. The panel determined although there was sufficient evidence that the employee had committed an offence, prosecution was not in the public interest.
Police then conducted a confidential employment process to address the employee’s actions.
The Authority is satisfied with how Police dealt with the matter.
