The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a complaint alleging that an officer drove dangerously in December 2023. The officer was on the way to an all-terrain vehicle crash scene on a farm near Whanganui and overtook a fire appliance, which was travelling to the same scene, on a blind corner at speed. Police conducted a criminal investigation and found there was evidence to prosecute for dangerous driving but that the public interest threshold for prosecution had not been met.
Police subsequently addressed the officer’s actions through an employment process. The officer resigned during the employment process.
The Authority is satisfied with the investigations Police undertook and the outcome reached.
