IPCA releases report on Police investigation into a complaint of assault
11 September 2014 - The Authority has today released its report on the Police investigation into a complaint by Mr X of an assault by a Fielding Police officer.
The Authority has found on the balance of probabilities that:
- Police should have conducted a timely, robust criminal investigation into Mr X’s complaint of assault by a Police officer;
- Significant delays in assigning an investigating officer, and Police’s failure to secure Officer A’s torch, undermined the fairness and effectiveness of Police’s investigation into Mr X’s complaint; and
- The failures of Police were contrary to policy and unjustified.
