Independent Police Conduct Authority welcomes Judge Kenneth Johnston as the new Chair.

17 April 2023

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has received notification of the appointment of Associate High Court Judge Kenneth Johnston, as its next Chairperson. He succeeds Judge Colin Doherty whose five-year term ends shortly.

Judge Johnston will come to the Authority from his position on the High Court Bench to which he was appointed in early 2018.  Judge Johnston has broad experience in criminal work, as both a prosecutor and defence counsel in jury and appellate trials, and in civil work, including general civil and commercial litigation, trusts and estates, construction, employment, family and professional disciplinary litigation. He also formerly held the positions of Chair of the Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal and Deputy Chair of the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.

The Authority looks forward to welcoming its new Chair and pays tribute to Judge Doherty for his service.

Judge Johnston will take up his appointment as Chair of the IPCA on 1 May 2023.
