The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that Police involved in a pursuit in Auckland did not comply with the Police fleeing driver policy and that their actions put the five occupants of the fleeing car, as well as other road users, in danger when they repeatedly crashed into it in an effort to stop it.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that a Whakatane Police officer did not deliberately use pepper spray on a 10-year-old girl and her mother while they were seated in a car that had been stopped by Police. However, the officer’s use of spray in a confined space, in the circumstances, was careless.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority released a report today finding that Police were justified in commencing a pursuit in Stokes Valley on 18 April 2015, and complied with law and Police policy throughout.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that two officers repeatedly disregarded both Police fleeing driver policy and the directions of the pursuit controller during a 20 minute pursuit in South Auckland on 13 August 2015.

On Tuesday 1 November 2016 at 10 am the Authority will release its report on a serious crash during a Police pursuit in Auckland on 11 February 2016.
The Authority found that Police complied with the law and Police policy throughout the pursuit, particularly in respect of their justification for commencing the pursuit, communication, speed and manner of driving, and risk assessment.
The report will be released on our website, with no accompanying media statement.
