7 September 2017

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that there were shortcomings by Police when pursuing Alaric Eccleston in Auckland on 8 September 2016. While a first pursuit was started and abandoned according to police policy, the second pursuit should not have been commenced.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that a Police officer was justified in shooting Ford Hurinui in Motueka on 20 August 2015. Mr Hurinui survived the shooting but received injuries to his heart and liver.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that an officer who pursued a fleeing vehicle, which subsequently crashed, was justified in commencing the pursuit and the pursuit was generally conducted in accordance with policy. The front-seat passenger of the pursued car died as a result of the crash.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that a Police officer was justified in shooting Wattie Kahu twice in Whanganui on 24 March 2016. Mr Kahu survived the shooting but received injuries to his leg and head.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority released a report today finding that a Police officer was justified in fatally shooting Shargin Stephens on Te Ngae Road in Rotorua, on 14 July 2016, after Mr Stephens threatened Police and members of the public with a long-handled slasher.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority released a report today finding that two Police officers who shot Shane Shortcliffe on 28 April 2015, while was he was under a house in Manurewa, Auckland, were justified in doing so.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority released a report today finding that members of the Hawkes Bay Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) were justified in shooting Chazz Hall in Clive, Hawkes Bay, on 26 October 2015. Earlier in the evening Mr Hall had shot and killed his former partner, Victoria Foster, at a Napier address.
