8 September 2020

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that a man was punched by a Police officer at least once during a roadside search but cannot determine which officer was responsible.

27 August 2020

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found Police failed to fulfil their duty of care to Alo Ngata when he was in the Police cells in 2018. Mr Ngata lost consciousness after being restrained and searched by five officers. Despite attempts to resuscitate him, he did not regain consciousness and died at Auckland Hospital two days later.


20 August 2020

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that Police officers were justified in firing shots at a man who fired a shotgun at Police at the conclusion of a pursuit in Christchurch on 26 February 2019.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that an officer was unjustified in using a Taser to defend herself against an aggressive detainee, because she could have used less forceful options to protect herself.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found an officer was justified in shooting at and wounding a man who presented an air pistol at Flaxmere Primary School on 17 December 2019.
