The Authority oversaw a Police review into a complaint from Wellington District where it was alleged Police had failed to adequately investigate a historical sexual assault. The review of the investigation found that although there were a small number of minor or administrative shortfalls, these were not critical or influential to the case outcome. While the review identified several learning opportunities for the investigating officer and their supervisor for future enquiries, Police did not unearth any misconduct on the part of the investigating officer. In this instance, re-opening the investigation would not move the enquiry further.
