Off-duty officer from Waitemata behaves unprofessionally

1 February 2021

An off-duty officer was accompanying a family member to collect an item purchased via Trade Me. When they arrived to collect the item, it appeared to be broken, and the discussion about next steps became heated. The other party complained the off-duty officer identified himself as Police and intimidated her and used unprofessional language.

Police have completed an employment investigation into the matter which was upheld. The officer was dealt with through a confidential process, but the Authority considers the outcome was fair and reasonable. The officer has since resigned from Police.
