On 9th October 2018 a police officer on patrol in Auckland stopped a vehicle that had previously failed to stop for police. As the police officer exited the police vehicle, the other vehicle accelerated away. The police officer began a pursuit of the vehicle.
A Police investigation into the incident found that the officer's manner of driving was contrary to Police Fleeing Driver Policy. The Speed the officer drove was Excessive, and the risk of the pursuit outweighed the offence that was known at the time (failing to stop and remain stopped. The officer was charged with dangerous driving and the Authority agrees that an appropriate employment outcome was applied.
