Allegation an officer assaulted his daughter

4 June 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation an officer in Counties Manukau had assaulted his daughter on two occasions. The first allegation was that the officer pinned his daughter down and the second allegation was that he pulled her by the hair.

The officer accepted holding his daughter for a few seconds to prevent her injuring herself. The Police investigation considered the officer's actions were justified and that he should not be charged with assault. There was insufficient evidence to establish whether the second incident had occurred.

The Authority agreed with the investigation findings that the officer should not be charged with any offending and that there was no basis for undertaking any employment process.
