Officer investigated for unauthorised access of confidential Police information for non-work-related purposes

16 September 2021

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into a notification from Wellington District alleging an officer accessed the Police database for non-work related purposes, and disclosed some of that information to an individual he knew in a personal capacity.

The Police investigation determined the officer's actions had breached the Police Code of Conduct and applicable policies. Subsequently, the officer received an employment sanction from Police.

The Authority is satisfied with how Police conducted the investigation and the outcome reached.
