Officer investigated for inappropriately divulging sensitive information

9 March 2022

The Authority oversaw a Police investigation into an allegation that an officer accessed the Police computer database and divulged sensitive information to a friend.

The investigation found the officer conducted an unauthorised check on an individual for private reasons and then disclosed that information to a friend. In doing so the investigation found the officer had breached Police policy on the Acceptable use of Information and the Code of Conduct and was therefore guilty of serious misconduct.

The officer’s conduct was dealt with through an employment process.

The Authority agrees with the investigation findings and outcome.
