Officers failed to report inappropriate behaviour

25 May 2022

In January 2021. a Police officer became aware of an inappropriate on-duty sexual relationship between a fellow officer and a member of the public. The officer reported his concerns to his supervisor at the time, but no further action was taken.

Later, when the inappropriate relationship became known and investigated, Police also investigated why the matter was not taken further and elevated at the time it became known. This was addressed by an employment process with the officers involved.

In relation to the inappropriate relationship, that officer subsequently resigned from Police.

The Authority agrees with the Police investigation and outcome.
