24 October 2024

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that Police breached aspects of the Fleeing Driver Policy when they pursued a car that crashed and killed a back seat passenger on 17 September 2023. However, their actions were not the cause of the crash.

22 October 2024

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that Police did not use excessive force while detaining a youth in Whangamatā on Saturday 31 December 2022.

However, the Authority found that Police, although acting in good faith, had no lawful basis to stop the car the youth was travelling in, and did not comply with the provisions of the Local Government Act 2002.

At 5 am on 13 January 2023, the Armed Offenders Squad executed an arrest warrant for a man at a rural property near Kaeo. During the operation, Police fatally shot two dogs, and they removed a man out of a house, causing him a head injury.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that an officer’s decision to signal a stolen car to stop moments before it was involved in a serious crash was reasonable in the circumstances.

 The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that a use of force and the arrests of two men in Auckland in 2022 was unjustified.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that force used by two custody officers restraining a detainee within the Counties Manukau Custody Unit on 31 October 2022 was unjustified.

27 August 2024

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that an officer was unjustified in punching a man three times in the head while in the back of a Police car in Waimauku on 12 December 2022.

20 August 2024

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that a Police officer was justified in shooting a man who was in possession of a shotgun and had fired several shots at an unoccupied Grey Lynn address during an incident on 18 July 2022.

13 August 2024

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that the force used by a Police dog handler, including a kick to the head, was justified in apprehending a suspected fleeing burglar on 20 September 2023. 

6 August 2024

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found that officers were justified in shooting Mr Fononga in Henderson on 17 March 2023.
